Malaysia steps up healthcare push in Cambodia

Translate

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is stepping up efforts to attract Cambodian healthcare travellers, with Maybank (Cambodia) Plc and the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) showcasing 14 Malaysian hospitals in Phnom Penh.

In a statement, Maybank Cambodia chief executive officer and country head Rath Sophoan said the event aimed to make it easier for Cambodian families to make informed healthcare decisions while incorporating financial planning into the process.

"MH WellFest Cambodia 2026 was designed around a simple question: how can we make it easier for Cambodian families to take a confident next step when health matters?

"The event connected families with the people, expertise and options behind Malaysia's healthcare institutions, while bringing financial readiness into the same conversation," he said.

MH WellFest Cambodia 2026, held at Borey Peng Huoth Eco Park, drew about 2,000 visitors and almost 800 runners, providing Cambodian families with direct access to Malaysian healthcare providers and specialists.

The two-day event, endorsed by the Malaysian Embassy in Phnom Penh, highlighted Malaysia's healthcare capabilities, including health screening, preventive care, specialist services and treatment options.

MHTC chief executive officer Datuk Suriaghandi Suppiah said healthcare travel depended on trust and confidence in the quality of care available.

"Malaysia Healthcare brings together quality care, specialist expertise, accessible healthcare options and a patient experience shaped by genuine hospitality.

"MH WellFest Cambodia 2026 created a direct bridge between Cambodian visitors and this ecosystem, allowing them to meet Malaysian healthcare teams, learn from specialists and gain greater clarity and confidence as they consider care across borders," he said.

Malaysian ambassador to Cambodia Shaharuddin Onn said stronger connectivity between Malaysia and Cambodia was creating more opportunities for families to access expertise and services across borders.

"MH WellFest Cambodia 2026 reflects this progress by linking Cambodian communities directly with Malaysia's healthcare institutions and specialists," he said.

The event featured a Wellness Discovery Hub with five health talks, giving visitors information on healthcare options and navigating treatment in Malaysia.

Maybank and MHTC said the event marked a step towards strengthening cross-border healthcare connectivity and raising awareness of Malaysia as a healthcare destination among Cambodian families.
