Benson Boone was caught with his pants down — literally. In a recent podcast appearance, the singer opened up for the first time about a surprise interaction with a fan in the bathroom backstage at one of his shows, which he says happened about two and a half years ago.

Speaking to hosts Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne — who’d asked him to share his “most embarrassing” moment on the Thursday (Oct. 1) episode of Life Uncut — Boone set the scene by recalling the opening night of the last amphitheater run he did before he started playing arenas. By that description, it happened on his Fireworks & Rollerblades World Tour, which ran between 2024 and 2025.

“It was the first show of the tour,” he shared. “Backstage, I didn’t have a bathroom, for some reason. The bathroom that I had was shared with the audience bathroom, so anyone in the audience could be in the bathroom I was in, and I didn’t know that.”

The Washington native went on to provide some context, explaining that he’s “very close” with his guy friends, some of whom joined him in the bathroom on the day of the embarrassing moment. “We’ve grown up together,” Boone said. “We have a bit where, when we’re [using urinals] in public restrooms — this was more of a thing we did in high school — usually, you just unzip and let it rip, and you don’t have to take off your pants.”

“Well, we do a thing where we just fully take off our pants, and we’re standing there with a shirt on but no bottoms,” he elaborated. “You have to take your pants all the way off and get them all the way back up before somebody outside comes back in.”

On this occasion, however, Boone was not quick enough — but he also didn’t realize that anyone he didn’t know was able to access that bathroom.

“Someone walks in, and I didn’t look, because I assumed it’d be one of my mates,” the musician said, cringing at the memory. “It wasn’t. It was a fan coming to the show, and he just stopped. I heard the gasp, and that’s when I turned, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.'”

Fortunately, Boone added that the fan was a cool guy, and they were able to have a nice interaction after the initial shock of the moment. But still, “It was so awkward,” he said on the podcast. “I was horrified.”

The hitmaker has come a long way since that moment in that he definitely no longer needs to share bathrooms with the crowds at his shows. His 2025-26 American Heart World Tour was made up of arena dates, as is his ongoing Wanted Man Tour. Both treks supported his 2025 album, American Heart, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
