JELI: A 30-year-old suspect who slashed a policeman with a parang during an anti-drug raid in Tanah Merah yesterday has been remanded for four days starting today.

The remand order against the suspect was granted by magistrate Tun Faez Fikhrie Tun Asrul Saini at the Jeli magistrate's court.

The remand order, which ends on Oct 21, was obtained under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the suspect, who is from Kampung Lalang Pepuyu in Tanah Merah, is a drug addict.

He added that the injured policeman remains warded at the Tanah Merah Hospital for observation.

It was reported yesterday that a police corporal was seriously injured after being slashed with a parang by a suspected drug pusher during an anti-drug operation in Kampung Lalang Pepuyu.

The 37-year-old officer suffered a fractured left hand in the 1.35pm incident after police raided the village following tip-offs regarding drug activity.
