Infantino Signals Support For Extra Financial Aid Ahead Of FIFA Council Vote

Translate

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has signaled a willingness to significantly increase financial distributions to all 211 member associations, following mounting pressure from continental confederations.

Earlier in September, UEFA chief Aleksander Čeferin and CONCACAF leader Victor Montagliani formally demanded that each of FIFA’s 211 members receive an additional $10 million from FIFA’s massive cash reserves (estimated around $4.4 billion to $6 billion) for the upcoming 2027–2030 cycle.

In a letter sent to the presidents of FIFA’s six continental confederations, Infantino stated that he supports the greatest level of additional funding that can responsibly be delivered.

However, he stopped short of explicitly locking in the $10 million figure ahead of a crucial FIFA Council meeting.

“The recent commercial proposal, now withdrawn, was intended to enable FIFA to invest more in football,” Infantino wrote.

“I will support the greatest level of additional funding that can responsibly be delivered through FIFA’s proper governance process,” he said.

The funding push follows the recent, controversial collapse of Infantino’s plan to sell a portion of World Cup commercial rights to private entities, a proposal originally defended as a way to raise extra money for global football development.

With that plan scrapped after heavy pushback, attention has turned directly to tapping FIFA’s heavy reserves to satisfy member demands.
