Annabel Sutherland and Phoebe Litchfield helped Australia women defeat Bangladesh women by seven wickets in the first ODI at Brisbane on Monday.

Put into bat, Bangladesh was bowled out for a paltry 166. Sutherland led the charge with the ball for the home side, picking four wickets (4/30).

The all-rounder found able support from Megan Schutt (2/19). Schutt in the process also became only the third Australian women to take 150 ODI wickets.

For Bangladesh, Ritu Moni top scored with 45 off 63 balls, but the rest of the batters failed to make much impression.

Captain Nigar Sultana was the next highest-scorer with 29, but went at a snail’s pace, taking 86 balls before she was snared by Talia McGrath to bring her struggle at the crease to an end.

In the chase, Georgia Voll got the ball rolling with a hattrick of boundaries but was soon dismissed for 19. Her opening partner Phoebe Litchfield however, did not tread down the same path as she converted her start into a match-winning half-century (77 off 57 balls).

After Litchfield was dismissed, Ellyse Perry (26* off 45 balls) and Sutherland (25* off 23 balls) completed the formalities for the home side with more than 24 overs to spare.
