Kwara govt clears promotion backlog for workers

The Kwara State Government has approved the implementation of the 2025 promotion exercise for workers in the mainstream civil service and the 2024 and 2025 promotion exercises for employees of agencies, parastatals and media houses.

According to a memo issued on Thursday by the Acting Head of Service, Olufunke Shittu, the approvals take effect from September 1, 2026.

Shittu said the decision followed the completion of the necessary processes by the Civil Service Commission and the affected establishments, as well as approval by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

She stated that the approval for workers in agencies, parastatals and media houses covered the 2024 and 2025 promotion exercises, following the conclusion of the required processes and assessment of the financial implications.

“The approval provides for the implementation of the 2024 and 2025 promotions for agencies, parastatals and media houses,” the Acting Head of Service stated.

She added that the government had also approved the implementation of the 2025 promotion exercise for workers in the mainstream civil service.

According to her, the financial benefits arising from the 2025 promotion for mainstream civil servants would be paid with effect from September 1, 2026.

Shittu said the approvals were part of measures by the AbdulRazaq administration to improve the welfare of workers in the state public service.

“The approvals are part of the proactive measures of the present administration towards strengthening the welfare of workers in the employ of the state government,” she said.

She added that the development would motivate workers, improve productivity and strengthen career progression within the state public service.

The Acting Head of Service appreciated the state government for its continued commitment to workers’ welfare and career development.
