Euromatch NPFL: Ikorodu City Goalkeeper Atata Reveals Key To Victory Over Rangers

Ikorodu City goalkeeper Michael Atata has attributed the team’s historic 2-0 victory over defending champions Rangers to concentration, determination and hard work.

The Oga Boys recorded their first-ever league win over Rangers following an impressive performance at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday.

Super Eagles midfielder Aderemi Adeoye gave Ikorodu City the perfect start when he fired a superb free-kick into the bottom corner to put the hosts ahead after just six minutes.

Ikechukwu Junior then sealed the victory in the second half with another expertly taken free-kick as Ikorodu City secured all three points.

Atata Hails Ikorodu City’s Home Win

Speaking after the game, Atata praised his teammates for maintaining their focus throughout the encounter.

“Today was all about concentration, from the first minute to the end of the game. We knew it was a game that would demand a lot from us, both mentally and physically,” Atata told the club’s media.

“It was about giving our all, putting in the right effort and making sure we came out with a win. I’m grateful for it.”

Focus On Local Derby

Ikorodu City will now shift their attention to their upcoming local derby against Sporting Lagos.

Despite the significance of the victory over Rangers, Atata said the team must remain focused and approach the derby with the same determination.

“We take each game as it comes. We try to stay present and take things easy. We will give our hundred percent in each game, so we are grateful for today’s victory,” he added.
