Euromatch–NPFL: Obasogie Delighted With Winning Return For Bendel Insurance Against Kun Khalifat

Returnee Bendel Insurance goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie, has expressed his delight at relaunching his domestic career on a winning note following the Benin Arsenal’s 4-2 thumping of Kun Khalifat in Sunday’s EuroMatch–NPFL 2026/2027 Matchday 3 clash inside Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Completesports.com reports.

The Super Eagles goalkeeper and former Singida Black Stars FC of Tanzania shot-stopper made his EuroMatch/NPFL return debut in Bendel Insurance’s 4-2 thumping of Kun Khalifat of Owerri.

Obasogie’s return to the domestic top flight had been momentarily put on hold by paperwork. But Bendel Insurance hierarchy recognised the quality and importance of the former Tanzania-based goal tender, and had to hasten the process of his international clearance.

Obasogie Relishes Winning Return

Obasogie played down the fact that he couldn’t keep a clean sheet in the game, but told reporters after the gritty clash that the important thing was victory, which guarantees the maximum three points.

“It’s good to be back. There’s no place like home. Bendel Insurance is always a home. That’s where I started off from,” Obasogie began when besieged by reporters after the pulsating clash.

“It’s where I belong. It’s my own pleasure to come back to help the club to get back to where it really belongs.”

The 26-year-old Obasogie admitted it wasn’t a stroll in the park against Kun Khalifat despite the huge scoreline.

“It wasn’t an easy game. Kun Khalifat is a strong team. But we gave it our all and made the most of our scoring chances,” Obasogie, who has also had spells at Ethiopian side Fasil Kenema Sport Club, added.

Six Goals In Benin City

Alex Oweilayefa opened the floodgates of goals for Bendel Insurance just five minutes after kick-off. Suraju Lawal, a former Heartland and Abia Warriors forward, doubled the home team’s advantage in the 19th minute before Chinedu Nwosu made it 3-0 two minutes into the second half.

Uchechukwu Onuoha reduced the tally for the Pride of Imolites eight minutes past the hour mark, but Chinedu Nwosu completed his brace on the night after converting a penalty in the 71st minute, bringing the score to 4-1 before Ebetomame restored Bendel Insurance’s two-goal cushion in the 85th minute.

Bendel Insurance, Kun Khalifat Face Matchday 4 Tests

Bendel Insurance will travel to newly promoted Ranchers Bees for a Matchday 4 clash this weekend, while Kun Khalifat welcome Rangers International in an Oriental Derby at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, this weekend.
