SHAH ALAM: Authorities are tracking several social media accounts linked to the circulation of an offensive AI-generated video showing Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad grieving at Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali's funeral.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said action would be taken against those responsible.

He said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and police were tracking those involved.

"I checked myself and saw that the accounts had disappeared," he told reporters after attending the Madani Kita Programme in Kota Anggerik.

"We are not yet certain whether those accounts were fake, but the MCMC is tracking them."

Fahmi called on all parties to respect the former prime minister's family as they grieve Dr Siti Hasmah, who died on Monday.

"We need to give them space. We should not intrude on their grief, including citizen journalists who may wish to approach Dr Mahathir now to ask how he feels.

"Give him time, as requested by the family. For our media friends, I would also like to remind them that we should give the family space and respect their request while they are grieving."

Dr Siti Hasmah, 100, died on Monday and was laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Putrajaya.
