Noah Wyle Says He Received “Very Encouraging” Update About Federal Film and TV Tax Incentive

Noah Wyle won big at Monday’s Emmy Awards, taking home the trophy for leading actor in a drama series. The Pitt also won for best drama at the 2026 primetime ceremony, which was held at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

Speaking with the press after the show’s wins, Wyle spoke about the proposed federal film and television tax credit. The anticipated legislation — which has been dubbed The Motion Picture, Television, and Entertainment Revitalization Act — is meant to lure American productions back to film in the U.S. instead of abroad.

“I got a very encouraging message the other day that the federally subsidized 20 percent tax credit is getting close to closure,” Wyle told journalists backstage after his Emmy win. “Hopefully that will get pushed over the top.”

The Emmy winner has long been a vocal advocate for bringing productions back to L.A. in particular, however, the proposed bipartisan bill would impact several U.S. production hubs, not just L.A. “I think that will be a huge advantage to certainly places that have the built-in infrastructure and the talent depth that Los Angeles does,” he said.

The prospect of a federally subsidized tax credit has often seemed far fetched, however, there appears to be a real bipartisan effort. President Trump also pushed for it earlier this month.

“We are now one of many shows that are shooting in Los Angeles,” Wyle continued. “I think the trend is turning and nobody’s more happy to see that than me.”

Wyle won the best actor Emmy for the second straight year for his role as Dr. Robby in the HBO medical drama. He was also nominated for his directing work on “12:00 P.M,” the second season’s sixth episode. “I grew up in L.A. I‘m a Hollywood kid. I was raised on a television. Movie theaters were my place of worship. This is all I‘ve ever wanted to do and this is the only club I‘ve ever wanted to join. Thank you for accepting me,“ Wyle told the crowd after accepting his lead actor award.

The 2026 Emmy Awards took place Monday, Sept. 14 at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay hosted the ceremony, which had a star-studded cast of characters from some of TV’s biggest shows including The Pitt, Pluribus, Widow’s Bay, Beef and more.
