Disney+'s New Sci-Fi Action Series Is Instantly The Biggest Streaming Show In The World

Andy Behbakht has worked as an entertainment journalist since 2010, covering all the latest in Hollywood on both the big and small screens, from staying on top of the biggest breaking news, analyzing movies and television shows in Hollywood, to in-depth interviews with actors and storytellers.
Andy's career includes having worked for publications such as FanSided, KSiteTV, TV Fanatic, It's Just Movies, Heroic Hollywood, TV Overmind, and more. Outside of his career as an established reporter, Andy is the host and producer of The Showrunner Whisperer, The Flash Podcast, the editor-in-chief of Multiverse of Color, and the network director of DC TV Podcasts.
Disney+ is no stranger to sci-fi and fantasy adventures, as the streaming platform continues to tackle various properties through these beloved genres. While 2026 has entered the fall season, the Disney-owned platform is far from done with new and returning shows, as the Hollywood studio brings established IPs and new creations to life.
As October is halfway through, the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise has brought the latest Disney+ Original to the streamer. Set as part of Phase 6, the VisionQuest series premiered on October 14 with the first two episodes of the Paul Bettany-starring project. The latest show from Marvel Studios will serve as the final release before Avengers: Doomsday, as viewers follow Vision after the events of his resurrection in 2021. Following the premiere, the sci-fi installment has already emerged to a strong critical reception among members of the press and general audiences, as it is holding 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, along with an 86% rating on the Popcornmeter.
VisionQuest Completes A Beloved Trilogy
After only a day, the VisionQuest TV show has already become a worldwide streaming success for Disney+ and Marvel Studios. As of writing, it is currently #1 in several countries, including the United States. The Phase 6 installment has also surged to the top spot for the digital platform in Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Brazil, Australia, Canada, Sweden, as well as Singapore, Romania, Jamaica, England, Argentina, Colombia, France, Iceland, and Peru, showing that viewers across the globe have been eagerly awaiting its launch.
VisionQuest is the third and final installment in what has become the WandaVision trilogy, which includes 2024's Agatha All Along. The streaming win for the 2026 property continues the strong era for MCU TV on Disney+ that began in 2021. While there are six more episodes left to air, by the time the finale airs on November 10, it will finish what has been seen as one of the most consistent aspects of The Multiverse Saga.
How VisionQuest Will Impact The MCU's Future
With VisionQuest thriving through its reception, the Disney+ drama is paving the way for a number of key roads in the MCU timeline. One of the key players of the ongoing series is the reintroduction of Tommy Maximoff, a.k.a. Speed, as Ruaridh Mollica has taken on the role of Wanda and Vision's other son, after his soul was placed in Thomas Shepherd. As the franchise has been setting up various members of the Young Avengers, the TV show will further establish him, following the events of Agatha All Along, where Joe Locke's Billy Maximoff, a.k.a. Wiccan, got a similar arc.
The return of James Spader as Ultron is also having a big impact on the MCU, as VisionQuest episode 1 revealed that Bettany's leading character didn't actually destroy him in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron. As he is now back after over a decade, it begins a whole new era for the iconic supervillain, which could have signficant meaning in Phase 7 and beyond. With the series being the last project to debut ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, time will tell if the drama, from showrunner Terry Matalas, will potentially have any tie-ins to the ensemble film.
New episodes of VisionQuest debut on Tuesdays at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT on Disney+ until November 10.
