The winning candidates for the parliamentary district representative seats in Cotabato City and Basilan have been named following the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The BARMM Parliament has 80 seats, with 40 allocated to party representatives, 32 to district representatives and eight to sectoral representatives.

Of the 32 district seats, nine are for Lanao del Sur, five each for Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur, four each for Basilan and Tawi-Tawi, three for Cotabato City, and two for the Special Geographic Area (SGA).

Cotabato City

The winning candidates in the three parliamentary districts of Cotabato City are:

  • Romeo Sema (MP) – first district
  • Naguib Sinarimbo (BFP) – second district
  • Tomanda Antok (BFP) – third district

The Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) secured two of the three district seats in Cotabato City, while Sema of the Mahardika Party (MP) won the first district.

Basilan

The winning candidates in Basilan are:

  • Rima Hassan (BFP) – first district
  • Pai Sali (UBJP) – second district
  • Abrar Hataman (BFP) – third district
  • Jay Hataman (BFP) – fourth district

The BFP secured three of the four district seats in Basilan, while the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) won one.

Voting in 36 of the 86 precincts in Maluso, Basilan was continued on Tuesday, September 15, after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) discovered pre-shaded ballots in the affected precincts.

Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said on Tuesday that the individual behind the pre-shading of ballots in the 36 polling precincts would face electoral sabotage charges, which carry a penalty of life imprisonment.

Authorities were also identifying the candidates allegedly involved in the pre-shaded ballot incidents, as they could face disqualification, according to Comelec.

Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia said the final voter turnout for the first BARMM parliamentary elections was 84.34%.
