Indonesia starts Bali pilot for nationwide 112 emergency hotline

Indonesia is moving to adopt 112 as its single emergency hotline, with the government launching a pilot project in Bali ahead of a nationwide rollout over the next two years.

"Bali is a tourism province that requires a single emergency hotline. In addition to serving local residents, the service will also be available to international tourists," Director General of Regional Administration Development at the Home Affairs Ministry Safrizal ZA said.

In a statement received in Denpasar, Bali, on Friday, he noted that the 112 hotline integrates a wide range of emergency services, including firefighting, medical assistance, disaster response, and measures related to public safety and security.

Safrizal added that the emergency hotline would also be accessible through a mobile application.

He made the remarks during the signing of a joint commitment to the Indonesia Siaga 112 initiative, which also involved the Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) Ministry.

Komdigi Secretary-General Ismail said the ministry is ready to develop technical schemes and operational procedures to synchronize emergency response systems across institutions while supporting the necessary digital infrastructure.

Under the pilot project, the 112 hotline can be accessed free of charge throughout Bali through both mobile and landline networks.

Bali Governor Wayan Koster welcomed the initiative, saying the province is ready to help manage the hotline as part of efforts to maintain its position as a leading global tourist destination.

He said Bali has adequate human resources to support the program and highlighted plans for specialized training and dedicated units covering all 57 sub-districts across the province.

Executive Chief of Bali’s Disaster Mitigation Agency, I Gede Agung Teja Bhusana Yadnya, explained that multiple emergency services would be integrated under a single command structure through the hotline.

“As instructed by the governor, we will promptly take the necessary follow-up measures in coordination with relevant stakeholders to make the hotline accessible to the public,” he said.
