Wayne Rooney in "advanced talks" to join I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! line-up

Wayne Rooney could be following in his wife's footsteps and heading into the jungle later this year. According to reports, the former footballer is in "advanced talks" to take part in the upcoming season of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

Wayne's wife of 18 years, Coleen, starred on the 24th edition of the hit ITV reality series back in 2024, and made it pretty far as she eventually finished in the runner-up position behind winner Danny Jones.

The Sun on Sunday has reported that Wayne could follow suit, with a source telling the publication: "Wayne is in advanced talks for I'm a Celebrity and if they secure him, he'll be their biggest signing in the show's history."

"Coleen proved to be hugely popular when she took part two years ago and bosses think Wayne is going to match her success. ITV have been in negotiations with him for some time and are thrilled that they've reached this stage," they added.

The sports star reportedly "loved" seeing Coleen take part in the show, and is "keen to make it work" for himself. It's also been claimed that Wayne is "really competitive and hates losing", so if he does make it to the Australian jungle, he "will give I'm a Celebrity his all".

Coleen will be "backing him all the way", and it's been reported that she is likely to head Down Under to give her full support. She will reportedly be joined by the couple's youngest three sons, Klay, Kit and Cass.

Digital Spy contacted ITV about the reports, with a spokesperson responding in a statement: "Any names suggested for I'm a Celebrity are just speculation."

Other famous faces rumoured to be considering a stint in the jungle for the upcoming edition of the long-running series include Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson and Big Brother host AJ Odudu.

I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! usually launches on ITV in the middle of November, so it shouldn't be too long before we find out who will be heading to the jungle alongside hosting duo Ant & Dec.
