Manila Water, GCNP hold environmental sustainability session

MANILA, Philippines — Manila Water partnered with the United Nations Global Compact Network Philippines (GCNP) to organize a Peer Learning Session on Environment focused on climate resilience, water stewardship, circularity, and environmental responsibility.

Held on Sept. 24 at the MWSS Administration Building in Balara, Quezon City, the session brought together sustainability leaders from the private sector and academe to exchange insights and practical approaches to environmental sustainability.

Opening the event, Sarah Bergado, Sustainability Director of Manila Water and GCNP Board Trustee, emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing sustainable business practices.

“Environmental challenges require collective action, innovation, and knowledge sharing. Through platforms such as the GCNP Peer Learning Session, organizations can learn from one another’s experiences and accelerate the adoption of solutions that create long-term value for both business and society,” Bergado said.

The program featured a lecture by Dr. Darwin Bandoy, Director for Research and Creative Works of the UP Resilience Institute, on environmental and climate risks facing businesses and the importance of resilience planning and risk-informed decision-making.

During the industry spotlight segment, Eddie Lumangaya, Head of Operations and Analytics of Manila Water, shared how digital innovation and data-driven solutions are strengthening water resilience and supporting long-term water security. Edwin Nerva, Assistant Vice President for Sustainability of Nickel Asia Corporation, also shared the company’s climate action journey, highlighting its SBTi-validated net-zero targets.

The session underscored the power of cross-sector collaboration in addressing environmental challenges and advancing practical solutions.
