BATU PAHAT: A 16-year-old boy has been remanded for six days to assist in the investigation into the murder of Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, whose bloodied body was found at a school in Yong Peng yesterday.

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the suspect was arrested at 7pm yesterday, an hour after police received a report that a 16-year-old girl was found unconscious and covered in blood in a school hall.

"A post-mortem will be conducted today at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital," he said in a statement, adding that the boy had no prior criminal record.

The suspect was brought to the Magistrate's Court here this morning, where a six-day remand order was granted until Oct 9.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Rahaman said the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident have yet to be established.

Those with information are urged to visit the nearest police station, call the Johor police hotline at 019-2792095, or contact the Johor contingent operations room at 07-2212999.

Earlier, it was reported that three male students, all aged 16, were arrested over the incident.
