Man arrested over robbery of foreign national in Banten

Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Police in Banten arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of robbing and assaulting a 62-year-old foreign national in Citra Raya, Tangerang District, police said.
Cikupa Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief Ipda Syaiful Rusdiansyah said officers arrested MIM at his hideout in Garut district, West Java, on Tuesday, September 29.
"The arrest followed a report of an assault on Aug. 21, 2026," Syaiful said here Thursday.
Investigators found that MIM had first visited the victim's home in Citra Raya's Taman Puspa cluster, claiming to be his uncle, to borrow Rp12 million (US$669).
The victim refused the request, leaving MIM disappointed, Syaiful said.
"Later that same day, MIM returned to the victim's home without being noticed while the victim was asleep," he said.
Syaiful said MIM, driven by resentment, attacked the victim with a pestle, causing a severe head injury.
"The victim required 14 stitches for his head wound, and the suspect immediately fled," he said.
After the victim was taken to hospital for treatment, MIM allegedly stole about Rp100 million (US$5,576) in cash kept in the victim's cabinet.
"With the stolen money, the suspect fled to Garut before police tracked him down," Syaiful said.
Police found during an initial examination that the Rp100 million (US$5,576) had been spent entirely on daily needs while MIM was on the run.
Syaiful said the suspect was still undergoing intensive questioning and had not been formally named a suspect.
"The legal process is continuing to complete the evidence before determining the suspect's definitive legal status," he said.
