Indonesia invites Russian investment in 138 new energy blocks

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto invited Russian companies to invest in and develop 138 energy exploration blocks newly opened in Indonesia.

"We invited Russian groups and companies, along with their technology, to take part in these 138 blocks," Prabowo said during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday.

He noted that Indonesia is currently exploring cooperation with Russian groups to develop joint energy projects, including refineries and storage terminals.

According to him, Indonesia has an ample supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG), meaning it does not directly require Russian gas supplies in certain sectors. However, the country remains open to utilizing Russian technology and developing joint projects.

Beyond energy exploration, the president mentioned that Indonesia-Russia cooperation is also expanding into fertilizer production and mineral processing.

Prabowo added that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between an Indonesian fertilizer company and one of Russia's largest business groups to jointly invest in a gas-based fertilizer production project in the Russian Far East.

In mineral processing, Prabowo said Indonesia is also working with Rusal, a Russian aluminum producer, and added that the firm will enter the country on a large scale to develop a refinery alongside local partners.

The president affirmed that Indonesia remains open to expanding cooperation with Russia across various sectors.

President Prabowo attended the 11th EEF as a guest of honor. His participation in the forum reflects Indonesia’s ongoing active engagement with Russia, following his attendance at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in 2025.
