Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Reviews Reach High Not Seen Since 2010's Black Ops

We are just a few days away from the launch of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and as the 23rd installment in the Call of Duty franchise, it is going to have to do a lot to stand out amongst the rest, especially with more recent entries being criticized for their lack of ambition.

However, it seems as though Infinity Ward and Activision have nothing to worry about, as critic reviews see the brand-new Call of Duty installment hit highs not seen since the launch of 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Set to launch on 23 October for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is the fourth and final entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series. With its last entry, 2023's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, being met with mixed reviews due to its poor campaign, it seems as though Infinity Ward went back to the drawing table, and has managed to finish off the spin-off series with a bang.

As such, our very own Rob Keyes was lucky enough to visit Infinity Ward back in May, and it is here that his hands-on preview revealed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was a major reset for the franchise. He wrote:

Infinity Ward is also introducing new systems like Apex Attachments, gameplay-altering endgame weapon upgrades, and Gunny, a smart Gunsmith assistant that automatically generates weapon builds around specific playstyles from your available attachments. I have much more to share on Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer, including its new movement systems, the complete list of weapons available at launch, franchise-first tech, and what I played during my visit to Infinity Ward, in this separate deep dive. I promise, it's awesome.

Now, a few months on, and we are days away from the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and according to a recent Twitter/X post by CharlieIntel, an account dedicated to all things Call of Duty, this brand-new entry "is currently the best-rated Call of Duty title on Steam since 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops."

You may be wondering how this could be the case if the game does not release until 23 October. Well, back on 16 October, purchasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 early would unlock access to the campaign, allowing players to dive into the action ahead of the game's full launch.

So, if you think about it, these rave reviews correspond to the upcoming campaign, more so than the all-important multiplayer mode, which is set to unlock later this week. As such, those reviews could definitely change depending on how well this mode is received, but, for now, it seems as though Infinity Ward has taken on the feedback from previous installments and worked on the campaign.

Back on Twitter/X, fans shared their thoughts on CharlieIntel's post, with one writing, "The power of a great campaign", whilst another said, "Let's wait until multiplayer releases. Those reviews will plummit."

It remains to be seen what the reviews for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will look like in a month from now. In the meantime, it seems as though the future is looking bright for the final installment in the Modern Warfare sub-series.
