What Is 'The Good Daughter' About?

Based on the bestselling 2017 novel of the same name by author Karin Slaughter, The Good Daughter follows two estranged sisters named Charlotte “Charlie” Quinn (Meghann Fahy) and Samantha “Sam” Quinn (Rose Byrne). Set in a small Georgia town named Pikeville, the series follows Charlie and Sam twenty years after a brutal home invasion changed their lives and fractured their family forever. The incident resulted in their mother's murder, devastated their defense attorney father, Rusty (Brendan Gleeson), and led to a series of unspoken secrets between them.

Two decades after the invasion, another act of violence suddenly hits Pikeville, and Charlotte, now a lawyer like her father, is the first witness on the scene. In Episode 1 of the series, the event drags both sisters back together and resurfaces the horrifying truths of the night that once tore their family apart. "As the case unfolds and twists through painful memories and buried secrets, what emerges is not just a story of survival, but of enduring ties between a father and his daughters, and the complex bond between sisters," the official synopsis reads.

'The Good Daughter' Will Draw in Viewers With the Cast Alone

While the synopsis and trailer of the series alone might be enough to have viewers tuning in, the cast will certainly be the biggest draw. After all, Fahy and Byrne have been on quite a roll lately, with Byrne scoring her first Oscar nomination earlier this year for If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, and Fahy starring in a series of major ratings darling TV shows including Season 2 of The White Lotus, The Perfect Couple and Sirens. In addition to the actors playing the Quinn sisters and Gleeson, who got his first Oscar nomination not too long ago in 2023 for The Banshees of Inisherin, The Good Daughter will also star Harper Steele, Olivia Williams, Drew Cheek, Audrey Grace Marshall, and Michael Dorman.

Therefore, while Peacock has yet to become a streaming platform known for thrillers, The Good Daughter, starring on November 12, 2026, could finally break the pattern. With an impressive stacked cast, and a story based on an instant New York Times bestseller, it seems Peacock has all the right ingredients to deliver an entertaining and suspenseful thriller. Plus, with Slaughter serving as executive producer and showrunner, fans of the original novel can rest assured that the adaptation is in good hands.
