Makinde’s chief of staff resigns

Segun Ogunwuyi, the Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has reportedly resigned from his position, becoming the latest aide to leave the governor’s administration.
Punch reported that Mr Ogunwuyi announced his resignation in a letter dated 12 October (Monday), stating that it took effect immediately.
“I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026,” he wrote.
Mr Ogunwuyi did not state a reason for his resignation in the letter. But his exit from the administration comes after months of speculations about his alleged dwindling enthusiasm about the governor’s politics, which he once championed within his spheres of influence.
Meanwhile, in his letter, Mr Ogunwuyi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the state, describing his time in the administration as an honour.
“Serving the government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration,” the letter read.
Mr Ogunwuyi said he remained proud of the administration’s record, particularly its efforts to promote the state’s growth and development. He added that he remains confident in Oyo State’s continued progress following his departure from office.
“Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem and unwavering loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he added.

Mr Ogunwuyi is a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.
He previously represented the Ogbomoso North, South and Oriire Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives before joining Mr Makinde’s administration as chief of staff.
His resignation comes amid reports of the departure of several political appointees from the governor’s administration in recent months.
However, Mr Ogunwuyi did not link his decision to the reported departures or disclose whether he intended to pursue another political appointment or ambition.
His resignation comes amid Mr Makinde’s pursuit of a presidential bid in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
