Daft Punk reportedly turned down ‘GTA 6’ soundtrack offer before Justice said yes

According to a new report, Rockstar Games tried to get Daft Punk to reunite for the Grand Theft Auto 6 soundtrack.
Last week it was confirmed that Justice created an original score for Grand Theft Auto 6 and also contributed to ‘Grand Theft Auto 6 – The Album’, which features 34 brand new tracks from some of the biggest artists around. A new launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was soundtracked by Justice’s ‘Flower In A Hurricane’, which also features Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
However, according to a new report, Justice weren’t Rockstar Games’ first choice. “Daft Punk’s management (yes, still exist) were pitched ‘a final comeback’ of the duo for the GTA 6 soundtrack with what was ‘essentially an unlimited budget’,” wrote prominent leaker Has It Leaked on X earlier this week (Monday October 19). “Justice were Rockstar’s second choice.”
“Source: I made this up,” replied one X user. “I’ve leaked Daft punk and Justice news for 10+ years. Check my record. But I understand the hesitation,” Has It Leaked said in response to the doubts.

Daft Punk split in 2021 after 28 years together. Both members have spoken about the necessity of the split with Thomas Bangalter admitting he was “relieved” over the way that the band ended.
Earlier this year, the duo marked five years since their split with a new video for their 2005 single ‘Human After All’ but Bangalter ruled out a reunion as there were still “other things to explore” away from Daft Punk. “The history of music is made of fruitful partnerships and they usually last way shorter than the 28-year run that we had. It was great, but staying in character and not spoiling it became very difficult.”
However, last September, Fortnite shared an immersive Daft Punk experience featuring 31 songs from across the French duo’s catalogue. The experience also included custom outfits, all-night dance parties and opportunities to remix and mashup Daft Punk songs, as well as a virtual concert featuring moments from their celebrated ‘Alive 2007’ live album.
