Sachin Tendulkar had also visited the Delhi Golf Club last year.
The stars have descended on Delhi. Inside the lounge overlooking the 18th hole at the Delhi Golf Club, a glimpse of Sachin Tendulkar has sparked excitement among fans watching the tournament from around the world. Fans were seen discussing golf, cricket, and football all at once. At the Delhi Golf Club, rain attempted to disrupt the $4 million (approximately Rs 35 crore) DP World Tour event on Thursday. The tournament features 14 golfers from the world's top 100, making it a focal point for golf enthusiasts across the globe.
News of Sachin's arrival spread like wildfire
With bright sunshine returning on Friday and the festive season underway, news that Sachin Tendulkar had joined an array of international sporting stars in Delhi spread rapidly throughout the city.
Earlier, reports of two-time FIFA World Cup-winning Brazilian superstar Ronaldo visiting the Delhi Golf Club had already created a buzz among football fans across the capital.
Special excitement around Sachin Tendulkar
At around 2 PM., Sachin Tendulkar, sporting sunglasses, was seen enjoying the atmosphere around the 18th hole and the golf course. Tendulkar has a deep interest in golf. He is a global ambassador for DP World and had also visited the Delhi Golf Club last year.
With stars such as Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, and Yuvraj Singh increasingly embracing golf, several current cricketers, including India captain Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, have also turned to the sport to refine skills such as their batting swing.
FIFA World Cup winner Ronaldo impressed by the course
The two-time World Cup winner, legendary goalscorer, and iconic No. 9, Ronaldo, also tried his hand at golf during his visit to the Delhi Golf Club. He later met India's Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse and presented her with his No. 9 jersey. He also donated a pair of his football boots to a golf club.
Ronaldo commented on both the fairways and rough at the Delhi Golf Club.
"The rough on this golf course is incredible. It's very large and very challenging."
Reflecting on his own performance, he added:
"I'm happy with my hits here. A few shots went a little off target."
Kapil Dev: Indian youngsters can become world champions too
Former World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev, who has built a strong reputation in golf after his cricketing career, spoke about the importance of providing young players with opportunities.
"It is our responsibility to give young players exposure and a platform. They still do not have access to the best facilities available in some other countries. If we provide them opportunities, who knows? Some of them could become the next Tommy Fleetwood or Rory McIlroy."
Both Tommy Fleetwood (World No. 6) and Rory McIlroy (World No. 2) are among the leading names competing at the DP World Tour event at the Delhi Golf Club.
Yuvraj Singh: I might have scored 3,000 more runs
World Cup-winning all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has often remarked that he took up golf too late.
"Had I started playing golf earlier, I might have scored another 3,000 runs in my cricket career."
Yuvraj continues to encourage cricketers such as Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma to take up golf. He believes that playing golf can improve a cricketer's bat swing and overall technique.
Kevin Pietersen and Brett Lee add to the glamour
The presence of former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen and former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee also generated considerable excitement among both cricket and golf fans at the Delhi Golf Club.
Fans queued up for selfies and photographs with the sporting icons. The gathering of stars from different sports highlighted golf's rapidly growing popularity in a country traditionally dominated by cricket.
