A group of young Nigerians in Politics has taken its voter education and grassroots engagement campaign to Lusada Market in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, urging traders to participate actively in the 2027 electoral process.

The initiative, organised by GenZ in Politics, formed part of the group’s Market-to-Market Engagement Campaign aimed at taking political awareness and voter education to markets and communities across the state.

The campaign comes as political activities and preparations for the 2027 general elections gradually intensify, with political groups and prospective candidates stepping up grassroots engagements across the country.

Beyond seeking political support, voter education remains important in helping eligible voters understand the voting process and cast their ballots correctly on election day.

The exercise, which commenced on Wednesday, was led by the Convener of GenZ in Politics and Consultant to the Ogun State Governor, Sunmola Olashile, alongside members and supporters of the group.

Olashile disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

During the engagement, the group also canvassed support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, who is seeking the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress, as well as other APC candidates, including Jimoh Ojugbele for the Ogun West Senatorial District and High Chief Olanrewaju Bashorun, popularly known as LarryBash, for the Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency.

A major focus of the campaign was voter education, as traders were taken through the process of correctly thumbprinting their ballot papers and avoiding mistakes that could render their votes invalid.

The practical demonstration attracted the attention of market women, men and other traders, with the organisers stressing the need for voters to understand the voting process before going to the polls.

Speaking on the initiative, Olashile said young people had a responsibility to participate in the political process and contribute to conversations about the future of the country.

She stated, “The campaign would go beyond political mobilisation by creating opportunities for citizens, particularly young people and market communities, to become more informed about the electoral process.

“The Lusada Market engagement marks the beginning of the planned Market-to-Market Campaign across Ogun State, with similar engagements expected to be held in other markets and communities ahead of the 2027 general elections.”

Sunmola added that the subsequent engagements would focus on political awareness, voter education and grassroots interaction.

Recall that Yayi picked up the N50 million All Progressives Congress governorship nomination forms for the 2027 Ogun State election in April.

The forms were obtained on his behalf, signalling his entry into the race for the state’s top seat.
