Strictly's Kai Widdrington provides update on Delta Goodrem following injury

Translate

Delta Goodrem and Kai Widdrington are back out on the dancefloor this weekend after receiving a bye on doctors' advice.

Last weekend, audiences missed out on a performance from the Australian singer after she sustained an injury – but now she's back!

The BBC recently confirmed that Goodrem will return to the Strictly dancefloor this weekend and hope to find her way back to the top of the leaderboard.

Radio Times caught up with Widdrington at the Pride of Britain Awards, as he revealed it was "touch and go for a second" ahead of hearing back from the medical team if Goodrem would be able to dance again.

"We didn't know if we were gonna be back," he explained. "But she's a fighter. That's her spirit, her heart is... She wants to be on the dancefloor, and she's enjoyed it so much, and it would be really harsh for us to leave due to medical. So we're really happy that we're gonna be back."

Prior to missing out on Icons Week, Goodrem had topped the leaderboard, achieving 33 and 59 (combined) the past two weeks.

Widdrington added: "It's really exciting to be back. Absolute dream. She's a dream student. She comes to work with an amazing attitude. She wants to learn to dance, and she's just a great person.

"And myself and my other half get on with her husband, and we went round on Sunday for coffee and some lovely cheese and biscuits, so it was lovely. And it's nice to be back in the swing of training now."

Ahead of last weekend's show, Goodrem said she was "absolutely gutted" to be missing out.

"I've been loving every second of this experience, so having to sit this one out is heartbreaking, especially after the high of Saturday night," she said. "I cannot tell you how much I love being a part of this magical show.

"I'm going to focus on resting and recovering, and hopefully I'll be back on that dance floor very soon."

She added: "Thank you so much to everyone for all the love and support. It's so appreciated. I'll be cheering everyone on from the sidelines this week! Sending all my love, Delta xx"
