The Heat opened 2026-27 with three straight losses before beating the Atlanta Hawks, and the questions about this roster haven't gone away. Not exactly the start Miami wanted. Then a report surfaced that the team was monitoring Kyrie Irving. Some insiders think he'd be open to it. Brett Siegel doesn't think it matters. In his view, even if the Dallas Mavericks make Irving available, the Heat don't have the assets to compete for him, and he said so plainly on a recent podcast.
Brett Siegel Speaks Up On Kyrie Irving And Miami Heat Rumors
Siegel didn't soften it. On the reported interest, he made it clear the Heat's counteroffer would be thin. “You can monitor [Kyrie] all you want. This team gave up their draft capital for Giannis Antetokounmpo, they have no young talent.” He was just as blunt about the competition, saying other teams would line up with better offers. “If the Mavs make Kyrie available, there's gonna be a ton of teams that offer them a legitimate package… [The Heat] just can not offer anything.”
Senior NBA Writer Reveals Kyrie Irving's Desire To Join Miami Heat
Ethan J Skolnick sees it differently, at least on Irving's side. Reacting to Shams Charania's report that Miami is monitoring him, he said on a podcast that Irving is interested and Spoelstra rates him highly. His full take: “I think we've both heard he's interested in playing down in Miami. I also know Spoelstra holds him in very high regard. — All indications are this is a place he'd be comfortable. My thought is, I don't think anything is imminent. I think the Heat are going to let this play out a little bit and see if Larsson can make the leap and what Conwell can eventually give us in the rotation.”
