Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun has objected to the notion of the current crop of bowlers being called 'toothless' following a poor show in the ongoing T20I series against the West Indies. India's inability to defend 250-plus totals has raised alarm bells, with some fans and pundits arguing whether the current crop of bowlers is potent enough to challenge teams in the absence of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. In a recent interaction organised by Sony Sports Network, Arun suggested it is unfair to call the bowlers 'toothless', pointing out that the bowling unit defended 223 in the previous match.
"They're saying bowlers are toothless, I think it's, it's not right for anybody to say that, because the last match when they played, they defended a total, successfully. Yes, previous games, they couldn't defend a huge total, but the last game was a modest total in T20, which they defended successfully. So, I think it's okay for teams to fail," said Arun, as quoted by Sportskeeda.

Arun also disagreed with the notion that India does not have quality bowlers who can swing the ball, noting that it is up to the team management to identify and groom such talent.
"I beg to differ. I think there are enough young bowlers in India who can swing the ball. It is for the selectors and the team management to identify those bowlers. But if you ask me, are there enough young bowlers who can swing the ball? Yes, there are enough young bowlers who can swing the ball," he added.
Meanwhile, India captain Shreyas Iyer praised his bowlers for their clarity and decisiveness, adding that the dry ball helped them stick to their plans while defending 223 in the 3rd T20I against the West Indies last week.
"The clarity was much more visible. They were decisive in their execution and when I was passing the ball to them, each and every bowler was up for the challenge and that's what you want," said Shreyas.
