Star Wars: Unlimited has been doing quite well for Fantasy Flight Games. While there are plenty of sets in the works, the strong foundation of the core launch of Spark of Rebellion helped define the game's tone going forward.

Since then, we've visited scoundrels, hung out in the Galactic Republic, flown starships, tangled with Force users, schemed with operatives, planned heists, and taken on the Battle of Endor. There are so many more stories to tell in this galaxy far, far, away, and that's just what the team is doing with Homeworlds, which is the ninth set in total if you count Spark of the Rebellion​​​​​​.

Let's break down exactly what the set entails so far, ahead of its October 9 full release.

Star Wars Unlimited - Homeworlds Release Date

The official launch date of Star Wars Unlimited: Homeworlds is October 9, 2026. It includes 272 cards, the biggest set to date (though everything has been fairly close, with 252-264 cards). The pre-release will take place the week before, and pre-release kits are already confirmed: as usual, you'll get six booster packs to make your own deck.

Homeworlds will focus on individual planets, their ecosystems, and their inhabitants. There is a "heavy emphasis" on alien creatures in this set, and there are two tokens and an additional keyword arriving with Homeworlds.

Two Spotlight (Starter) decks are coming as well, with a separate focus on Chewbacca and Grand Moff Tarkin as leaders.

Homeworlds Mechanics

The main mechanic in Homeworlds is Fortify. This simple keyword introduces a new mechanic: base attachments. As a reminder, players in Star Wars Unlimited have to defend their bases from attack; otherwise, they lose the game. While leader cards are an extremely important aspect of deck construction, your base is ultimately the only thing that stands between a win and a loss.

In other words, attaching things to bolster your base could end up becoming a popular strategy as we see the Homeworlds meta play out. Fortify's exact reminder text is: "Attach this to your base, not a unit."

Grand Moff Tarkin will specifically play around with the Fortify keyword, in the sense that he can ignore the aspect penalties on upgrades with Fortify. That means he can take any aspect card without having to pay the additional tax on cards outside his sphere of influence (in this case, Vigilance [blue] and Villainy [black]).

So far, we've seen Fortify mechanics mix up the game in the following ways:

• Add a discount on non-aspect cards
• Exhaust enemy units after you play another Fortify upgrade
• Debuff enemies
• Prevent units from readying

Rounding out the set are two new tokens. Beast tokens are the "largest tokens so far in the game" and have a set value of 3 power and 3 HP. Since they're a pretty beefy token, you'll need to go through more steps to create tons of them.

The other token type is "Weakness," which does exactly what it says on the tin. It's a condition that gives a unit -1 power and -1 HP, and is the polar opposite of the Experience token.

Once October rolls around, Star Wars Unlimited decks are going to be supercharged with the biggest set to date.
