KLUANG, Oct 3 — A husband and wife were killed, and their two daughters were seriously injured in an accident involving a car and a lorry at Kilometre 72.5 of Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing this afternoon.

Kluang police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the crash involved a lorry driven by a 34-year-old man from Kluang heading towards Kahang and a Hyundai Matrix coming from the opposite direction.

He said investigations found that the Hyundai Matrix, driven by a 54-year-old local man, is believed to have lost control due to slippery road conditions before entering the opposite lane and colliding with the lorry.

“As a result of the collision, the car driver and his 49-year-old wife sustained severe head and bodily injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The couple’s two daughters, aged 24 and 21, who were in the rear passenger seats, also suffered severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment in the red zone of the Emergency Department at Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital, Kluang,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Bahrin said the lorry driver was not injured.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Kluang Fire and Rescue Station commander Jusoh Mohd Salleh said they received an emergency call at 4.53pm. Six firefighters, a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit were sent to the scene.

He said the two victims trapped in the car, identified as Mislan Osman and his wife Nor Azilah A Rahman, were removed using special equipment before being pronounced dead. — Bernama
