One of the greatest protagonists in Assassin's Creed history is Origin's Bayek of Siwa. His ruthlessness and singular, often misguided, quest for vengeance, coupled with his occasional moments of peace and lightheartedness, made him a character you cared about, one deeply troubled by his trauma, but one that you know can ultimately be redeemed and come to terms with his loss. Bayek was expertly written in Assassin's Creed Origins, beautifully portrayed by Abubakar Salim, and remains a highlight of the recent Assassin's Creed RPG series.
Fortunately, Bayek is back in a big way in a brand-new piece of DLC. Fans eagerly anticipating the next Assassin's Creed game can take a breather from endlessly refreshing YouTube to see if Ubisoft dropped a new trailer to play this new DLC and relive the glory days of the RPG era. Bayek, alongside some other familiar faces, is set to make this a DLC to remember, and a great new adventure for those who simply miss Origins and want a little more Assassin's Creed in their life.
Assassin's Creed games are no stranger to getting DLC long after the base game is released. While the vast majority of them typically get DLC a few months or occasionally a year after release, Ubisoft developed a surprise Assassin's Creed Mirage DLC a whole two years after it originally launched. So, fans hoping for a return to Assassin's Creed Origins, or really any game in the series, may have begun anticipating a similar move from Ubisoft, especially as there's plenty of potential for the likes of Bayek to return.
That is somewhat the case as Bayek and some of Assassin's Creed's greatest protagonists are teaming up for a crossover with the fantasy RPG mobile game, Watcher of Realms. The Assassin's Creed crossover event, titled Echoes Across Realms, sees the likes of Bayek, Kassandra, Evi, Eivor, and Ezio team up to prevent a world-ending threat alongside characters from the Watcher of Realms universe.
This is, naturally, not the first time a major IP has crossed over into the world of mobile games, nor the first time Assassin's Creed has been adapted to the mobile experience. However, it does mark one of the first times that numerous Assassin's Creed characters have gathered together for what can only be described as a multiversal event. To participate in the event and unlock these exclusive Assassin's Creed characters, fans will need to jump into the Watcher of Realms app and take part in the three-act event.
It is great to see the likes of Bayek return alongside arguably more popular Assassin's Creed characters such as Kassandra and Ezio. However, it would also be great to see him appear in a fully-fledged Assassin's Creed experience, as opposed to just a crossover. Of course, these kinds of crossovers often resonate with fans (just look at Cyberpunk 2077's event in Wuthering Waves), so hopefully Assassin's Creed fans will get a kick out of seeing Bayek and co run around a new fantasy RPG world.
