PH-Bersatu pact hinges on Melaka talks, says Amirudin

MASJID TANAH: An electoral pact between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Bersatu for the Melaka election has yet to be finalised and will depend on the outcome of state-level talks.

PH election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said any agreement reached in Melaka would require approval from the coalition's central leadership.

He said PH would first assess discussions involving its state leadership, including the possibility of a 'PH Plus' arrangement.

"It is not certain yet. We need to see how far discussions with Melaka PH chairman Adly Zahari have progressed.

"If an agreement is reached, I will have to refer it to the PH central leadership. If approved, we will proceed," he told reporters after launching the Masjid Tanah PKR election machinery in Kuala Sungai Baru here yesterday.

Present were the prime minister's political secretary Datuk Azman Abidin and acting Melaka PKR chief Adam Adli Abd Halim.

Amirudin said any agreement that met current needs would be better pursued through a political or electoral understanding.

He said PH's priority was to settle seat allocations among its component parties in Melaka before finalising any cooperation with other parties.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had tasked Amirudin with holding talks with Bersatu on possible political cooperation in Melaka.
