Canada’s Omnifilm Expands Scripted Slate With English-Language Remake Of Korean Drama ‘The Good Detective’

EXCLUSIVE: Canada’s Omnifilm Entertainment has announced an English-language adaptation of Korean crime thriller series The Good Detective.

Based on the successful Korean format produced by Seoul-based content studio SLL, the project is part of Omnifilm’s move to expand its scripted slate with premium series aimed at global markets. The original series was originally broadcast on Korean broadcaster JTBC and brought to a global audience via Netflix.

Omnifilm picked up The Good Detective following a pitch at Canada’s East by Northwest (EXNW) conference after being developed by the Canada Asia Co-Production Accelerator (CAPCA) program, an initiative of Racial Equity Screen Office (RESO), along with SLL and with funding from CMF and Creative BC.

Janice Chua and Sean Dulake are executive producing through Third Culture Content, partnering with Omnifilm and SLL on the project from early development. Screenwriter Renuka Singh (Allegiance, Crew Girl) is writing the pilot script, after which the project will be pitched to Canadian and U.S. streamers and broadcasters.

Set in Prince George, British Columbia, the series follows two newly partnered detectives compelled to investigate a cold case after a shock confession upends the original murder conviction. Wrestling with their own conflicted dynamic – and the fact that the revelation may compromise one of them – they unearth hidden secrets in the community and expose insidious corruption that may be protecting a cold-blooded killer.
