BBC confirms a brand-new Strictly spin-off to air every Sunday night after the results show

The BBC has announced another brand-new Strictly Come Dancing spin-off to accompany this year's season, as well as changes to the main show on iPlayer.

Strictly: Lights Up will drop every Sunday night after the results show, and see comedian Abi Clarke and presenter Tyler West, who competed on Strictly in 2022, head to the dancefloor right after the week's elimination is announced.

They'll get the gossip from the couple sent home and the pair who survived the dreaded Dance-Off in the immediate aftermath, as well as from the judges and other couples.

In addition, there will be a new weekly highlights show, plus weekly episodes where Abi will give viewers a peek at the rehearsals behind the scenes.

This follows on from the announcement of Strictly: Pro Dance Off, which aired its first episode last Saturday as part of CBBC show Saturday Mash-Up!.

The Beeb has also announced that Strictly will be getting its own 'hub' on iPlayer, making it easier for viewers to find all the content related to the show in one place.

Each dance from this year's series will be uploaded to the hub individually, meaning that fans can relive their favourite moments without having to fast-forward and rewind through episodes.

But that's not all! Anyone watching the full episodes on catch-up via iPlayer will also be able to jump through them more easily thanks to a new chapter function.

Sarah James, the Senior Executive Producer for BBC Studios, said in a statement: "With Strictly's iPlayer audience growing year-on-year, this is the perfect time to announce a range of new exclusives that will bring viewers closer to Strictly than ever before.

"Hosted by the brilliant Abi and Tyler, Lights Up will be a post-results show like no other – taking you straight on to the Strictly dancefloor for all of the immediate reaction that previously remained unseen.

"Across the main shows, BBC iPlayer and Strictly socials, there's never been so much for Strictly fans to enjoy."

The BBC has also said that viewership for the show on iPlayer has increased year on year since 2022, while the launch show peaked at 5.8 million viewers in the overnight ratings.

Strictly: Lights Up begins on Sunday, 4 October, straight after the first elimination of the current season.
