Laguna Water marks 17th year with El Niño awareness program

Translate

MANILA, Philippines — In celebration of its 17th anniversary, Manila Water Non-East Zone operating unit Laguna Water launched an expanded implementation of its Daloy ng Saya program months ahead of its traditional year-end schedule, enabling the company to reach more learners through a strategic partnership with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Laguna.

Daloy ng Saya has served as Laguna Water’s platform for promoting awareness on wise water use, proper sanitation, and environmental stewardship. This year, the program was rolled out earlier to maximize its impact and extend its reach beyond the Company’s service areas.

The expanded implementation was made possible through the support of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Laguna, headed by Vice Governor Magtangol Jose “JM” Carait III, with board members of the province’s districts, who identified the beneficiary schools and facilitated community participation.

Through this collaboration, Laguna Water was able to bring its sustainability education campaign closer to over 500 young minds, reinforcing the shared responsibility across generations of protecting natural resources like water.

“We are pleased to partner with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Laguna in bringing Daloy ng Saya to more schools across the province as part of our 17th anniversary celebration. By reaching learners at an earlier time and in more communities, we are helping equip the next generation with the knowledge and values needed to become responsible stewards of water and the environment,” said Laguna Water General Manager Constantine O. Uy.

As part of the initiative, Laguna Water employee volunteers spearheaded the implementation of the first ten sessions of the anniversary program, which reached public learning institutions in the cities of Santa Rosa, Biñan, Cabuyao, Calamba, and San Pedro, and the municipalities of Los Baños and Calauan. The program aims to reach more schools and universities across the province with its continuation in the following months in partnership with the rest of the members of the Sanggunian and the Office of the Governor.

Among the topics covered during the information, education, and communication sessions were practical ways students can help conserve water and reduce water wastage. Participants were encouraged to become active advocates of water conservation by promptly reporting leaks and other water-related issues observed in their homes and schools.

The module also aimed to inspire greater community involvement in protecting water resources and minimizing pressure on existing water sources, particularly in anticipation of the potential impacts of El Niño.

Daloy ng Saya is just one of the many initiatives undertaken by Laguna Water to promote sustainability and ensure continuous supply of clean and safe water for the Province of Laguna. Since the start of its operation in 2009, the company has consistently strengthened water security by developing new water sources to meet the growing demand of its customers, implementing technological upgrades, and carrying out pipe replacement and maintenance projects to reduce water losses.
