‘Happily Ever After’: First Look Footage Of K-Pop Star Shuhua In Movie Debut — Toronto Film Festival

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s your first-look footage of K-pop star Shuhua in her movie debut, Happily Ever After, which is debuting this week at the Toronto Film Festival.

The Korea-based Taiwanese singer, a member of the girl group I-dle, stars alongside Xuan Chen (I, Myself) in the second feature from Taiwanese writer-director Feng-i Fiona Roan. Taiwanese outfit Splash Pictures produces.

The story follows two sisters with vastly different personalities and a stray cat that unexpectedly enters their lives. Hong Kong-based sales outfit Moebius Entertainment is handling international sales rights (excluding Taiwan).

The full synopsis reads: “Twenty-nine-year-old Kitty Lin’s life is upended when her devoted boyfriend, Ledo, unexpectedly proposes. To Kitty, marriage offers love, stability, and the promise that she is finally moving toward the life she has always imagined.

“Her older sister, Claire, is an independent writer who has rejected many conventional expectations, yet still lives with their parents while keeping her longtime relationship with her girlfriend hidden from their conservative mother. Unconvinced by Kitty’s sudden engagement, Claire questions the future her sister is choosing.

“As Kitty takes in an abandoned orange cat and wedding preparations gather momentum, the distance between the sisters widens. While Kitty struggles to meet the expectations of Ledo’s traditional family, Claire grows increasingly frustrated by what she sees as compromise. Kitty, in turn, resents Claire’s judgment and the contradictions behind her hard-won independence.”
