A Hong Kong taxi driver was killed and 11 other people were injured when his vehicle collided with a bus and a truck on Hong Kong’s Lantau Island on Tuesday evening.

Police said that around 8pm the taxi driver, heading towards Tung Chung, attempted to overtake a truck in the same lane on Cheung Tung Road.

He then swerved into the opposite lane but crashed into a bus on route DB03P from Discovery Bay to Sunny Bay MTR station. The taxi also collided with the truck before coming to a standstill.

The taxi driver, 59, was knocked unconscious and left trapped in the wreckage of his vehicle, while his male passenger suffered back and neck pain.

Nine passengers aboard the bus and its driver, also 59, sustained minor injuries.
