Exclusive: Coronation Street star reveals emotional hair shave scene for Kit and Brody

Coronation Street star Ryan Mulvey has opened up about an emotional upcoming scene between Brody Michaelis and Kit Green. Kit recently found out he has stage three breast cancer and has been desperately trying to keep the news a secret from his loved ones.

However, this week, his son Brody will discover the news, as well as learning that he can't be tested for the faulty BRCA gene that led to Kit's diagnosis until he is 18.

In emotional upcoming scenes, Brody is set to help Kit shave his hair as he undergoes treatment, which Ryan described as a "really beautiful" moment on the ITV soap.

"I think it's a lot and I think it's a really beautiful scene," he exclusively told Digital Spy at the Inside Soap Awards.

"I think mostly because he and Kit have quite a frosty exterior towards each other, even though they've warmed and warmed up, but still they're quite like trying to be the alpha man in that kind of thing. So I feel like the walls haven't really been broken down."

He continued: "I think to see his dad in such a vulnerable position, especially someone, you know, he's in the police, he's kind of like the alpha, he's a good-looking guy, and then to kind of see all those walls break down, and then for him to trust me as well is huge."

Ryan explained how they shot the "touching" scene and how "excited" he is for it to hit our screens.

"I didn't get to properly shave, but I like to think we had all the ends. We had all his hair everywhere, and it changes a lot," he said.

"I feel like as a man, your hair, you're like whatever. But to go from no hair to hair to no hair was a big thing. So I think that was kind of beautiful. So yeah, it was a really touching scene.

"I'm really excited to see it properly come out because it's the most vulnerable you've probably seen Brody and Kit."

He also spoke to us about how Kit's diagnosis and subsequent treatment will affect Brody, and whether he is worried about his own health going forward.

"I think it's a strange one because we talked a lot about that with the directors about how, going in, Brody would feel. But I think it's so strange," he said.

The star continued: "In the scenes, I wasn't really thinking about Brody, or I'm not nervous about his condition, because I think the forefront is that his dad's not okay, and it's kind of shocked him.

"Especially because you can't test until you're 18. Brody's turning 18 in January, so I think he's kind of just mentally blocked it and put it to the side.

"There's obviously an awareness of how dangerous it can be, especially that his whole family might be affected by it, and you don't know if they will be. But I think he's just not really thinking about that at the time because the main problem is his dad."
