The Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise has confirmed that its new Angel series will arrive in spring 2027, alongside a brand-new, connected Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. This news makes it clear the franchise is about to enter one of its biggest and most ambitious eras yet.
Fans may recall that this past summer, it was announced that Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Angel would get his own solo series, initially anticipated to release in August. Unfortunately, the highly anticipated series was delayed, alongside the release of Dynamite’s brand-new Buffy the Vampire Slayer series.
According to Dynamite, the delay for both titles was due to the two series becoming more ambitious than initially anticipated. As a result, Dynamite and lead writer Kelly Thompson felt it was best to step back and reassess to ensure both series were “done right and not rushed.”
Now, after several months of waiting, fans finally have confirmation that both series will launch in March 2027. Along with this news, Dynamite has revealed one exciting change fans can expect to see in both series.

Main Cover by David Nakayama for Angel #1 (2026)
As previously mentioned, both Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer became more ambitious than initially anticipated. To deliver the best possible story experience for fans, Buffy #1 and Angel #1 will now have significantly more story pages than average issues, at no additional cost to readers or retailers. This increase in story page count will ensure Thompson can tell the story she has planned in its entirety.
While delays are always discouraging, this is fantastic news, as fans will get more content, with more story and art resulting in bigger books. Fans can now anticipate the Buffy title to feature 35 story pages, followed by 32 story pages for Angel #1. Both books will be released as 48-page comics and will remain priced at Dynamite's standard $4.99.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer #1 is now confirmed for a March 10, 2027, release, while the exact release date for Angel #1 is still unconfirmed, though it will likely follow shortly after Buffy or release on the same day. As previously revealed, the Angel title will be brought to life by Thompson, artist Giulia Giacomino, and colorist Lee Loughridge, with fans able to find the official synopsis below:
Featuring the first appearance of Angel and Buffy’s new big bad, LEVIATHAN!
Once the terrifying vampire Angelus, Angel was cursed for his crimes with the return of his soul. That soul eventually led him to Sunnydale and a tragic star-crossed affair with Buffy, his vampire-slaying true love. Once the tragedy had run its course, Angel built himself a new life in Los Angeles as a supernatural detective, helping the helpless. But things don’t always go according to plan. And sometimes, you do have to go home again. This is that story.
With the teaser that a new villain will debut in Angel #1, Thompson is bringing new stories and mythos to the franchise, rather than simply rehashing stories that have already been told. Noteworthy is the cover art by Clayton Crain, which features some censoring. Dynamite confirms that this censoring is of the new villain, giving fans another taste of a major reveal yet to come.
However, fans should note that Leviathan's look and origin aren't the only major reveals to look forward to, as the comic publisher teases: “An even bigger reveal is being held close to the vest too, that will shatter the Buffy fandom in shock when they get their hands on the first chapters…” With that in mind, 2027 is shaping up to be an epic year for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise.
Angel #1 from Dynamite will be available to read in March 2027!
