Fire hits residential area in Quezon City

A fire that reached the fifth alarm hit a residential area along Waling-Waling Street in Barangay Central, Quezon City on Tuesday afternoon, the Bureau of Fire Protection - National Capital Region (BFP-NCR) said.
The BFP-NCR reported that the fire broke out at around 12:47 p.m. and was raised to the first alarm.
It reached the second alarm at 1 p.m., the third alarm at 1:10 p.m., and the fourth to fifth alarm at 1:27 p.m.
The fire was placed under control at 2:47 p.m., according to the BFP-NCR.
The affected houses were mostly made of light materials, according to Super Radyo dzBB’s Isa Avendaño-Umali.
The residential area is near the Lung Center of the Philippines.
Several residents were left devastated after losing their homes and belongings in the blaze.
One resident, identified as Rowena, reportedly broke down in tears after failing to save anything from the fire including her hard-earned savings.
The fire also coincided with heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, adding to the difficulties faced by the affected residents.
Those who were displaced temporarily sought shelter from the rain after their homes were destroyed by the fire.
Meanwhile, motorists were advised to take alternative routes as some roads near the area were occupied by firetrucks.
