Meghan Markle and Prince Harry did not agree to Queen Elizabeth’s decision regarding the terms of their leaving
According to a recently published report by Hello!, it seems that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not have much of a say when it came to their decision to step back from their royal duties back in 2020.
A statement from the report read, “It doesn’t trouble them. They never agreed they wouldn’t be half in, half out. That was what was decided and foisted upon them.”They addressed that when the couple announced they would "step back as senior members of the royal family,” they did not entirely agree to the late queen's opposition to the “half in, half out” strategy. At the time, the monarch ruled that the approach could not be deemed acceptable since they would not be able to represent the monarchy while also having their own private and commercial interests.
Back in 2020, following the couple’s announcement, the royal family met to discuss the matter, which was termed the ‘Sandringham Summit.
'Another statement from the report added, “They’re just living their lives, and they can, because they’re financially independent.”
More about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK
After staying in Montecito, California, with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the couple made the big shift to the UK after six years.
The two have returned to the UK and enrolled their children in a private school; however, their status as non-active members of the royal family has not changed.Soon after they moved back, King Charles issued a formal letter to the public confirming that neither Markle nor the prince will be considered active members of the royal family, and whatever charities or other events they attend are "a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity.
In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.”
The two were recently seen together in Nottingham for their first joint appearance since the move. The two attended charitable events and even met with a crowd in the area. Nottingham is also a special place for the couple since this is one of the first places where the two stepped out in public together for the first time after announcing their engagement to the world.
