2027 WWCQ: Playoff tournament won’t be easy – Black Queens defender Josephine Bonsu

Black Queens defender Josephine Bonsu has admitted the playoff tournament for the 2027 Women's World Cup will not come easy after her side missed out on an automatic spot.
Ghana missed out on an automatic spot after losing to Malawi in the semifinals of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat before beating Cote d'Ivoire in the continental playoff to seal a place in the intercontinental playoff.
Kim Lars Bjorkegren's side will come up against Ecuador, Uzbekistan and Papua New Guinea during the playoff tournament, which is reportedly scheduled to be played in Morocco.
Speaking ahead of next month's assignment, Bonsu admitted to the tricky situation the Black Queens find themselves in.
"I'm always looking forward to playing against teams that are not playing similarly to us," she told Fifa.
"The Play-Off Tournament isn’t going to be easy, and not just because we don't know their style of play. We have to remind ourselves that there's a reason why they are in the play-offs. They didn’t just get drawn into this. They made it, like us. So, we have to take them seriously and see where life takes us. Hopefully to the World Cup."
The Young Boys defender is confident the Black Queens will see out the challenge despite their threats from the other countries.
"We said that the most difficult opponent will probably be Ivory Coast. And since we beat them, I feel really confident that we can make it through the first stage (of the play-offs)," she added.
"I think we are a really good team; we just didn't show it this year, which is sad."
The playoff tournament will take place from November 28 to December 5.
