Two people died, and four others were seriously injured in a “multiple-vehicle collision” on Sunday.

The fatal incident happened on White Rose Way, between Carriage Drive and Middle Bank Roundabout, in Doncaster at 11am.

South Yorkshire Police said a black Mitsubishi L200 reportedly hit four pedestrians on the carriageway before colliding with a black Audi and a silver BMW moving in the other direction.

Two pedestrians were pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are currently working to identify and inform their next of kin.

Four other people were taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and driving while unfit.

The 30-year-old man has since been bailed pending further inquiries.

The force is appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage to come forward.
