Bafana Bafana outgrow Lyle Foster under Pitso Mosimane?

Translate

Lyle Foster has endured plenty of change in recent months, leaving Burnley and being left out of the Bafana Bafana squad. What’s going on there, and has Pitso Mosimane given up on him?

Foster is nowhere to be seen for Bafana under Pitso Mosimane

Bafana Bafana have made a perfect start to life under Pitso Mosimane with three wins from three. They’ve beaten Eritrea and Guinea in AFCON qualifiers and got the better of Egypt 1-0 in a friendly in Cairo. Pitso Mosimane has trialled several combinations and players, with the likes of Brookleyn Poggenpoel, Puso Dithejane, Luther Singh and Tashreeq Matthews used against the Pharaohs. Lyle Foster debuted for Houston Dynamo last weekend, on loan from Championship side Burnley, but he is currently out in the wilderness for Bafana. Is that a hint that Pitso has no plans for him?

Orlando Pirates star Appollis continues to shine

Pirates winger Oswin Appollis is now one of the nation’s go-to creative players. He claimed a hat-trick of assists against Eritrea in South Africa’s 5-0 win on Wednesday. The last player to claim three assists in a single game for South Africa? You guessed it, Appollis in 2024 against Congo.

Baartman injured for the South Africa U23 side

Meanwhile, versatile 20-year-old attacker Luke Baartman is a serious doubt for Chiefs’ next Betway Premiership match after suffering a thigh injury for South Africa’s U23 side against Algeria. Baartman has been an ever-present for Chiefs this term, appearing in all seven league outings.
