Iran in 'advanced stages' of plans to target US officials in Middle East

- US intelligence has information that Iran is in the 'advanced stages' of plots targeting government officials in the Middle East and beyond, according to a memo from Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton.
- "Specifically, through various channels, we have received intelligence that Iran has substantiallyincreased efforts to target U.S. personnel," Clayton's memo to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, dated Oct. 23 and obtained by Axios, reads.
- Clayton noted he will try to downgrade as much intelligence as he can so Rubio can share the information as widely as possible with personnel who may be impacted.
- The memo comes following a report in The New York Times on Oct. 21 that the US and Israel have drawn up plans to resume strikes on Iran after the midterm elections.
- In late September, a Wall Street Journal report said that Trump told advisors he wants to resume bombing after the midterms.
