Lionel Messi unveils special Argentina jersey ahead of his final International match

Lionel Messi has unveiled the special Argentina jersey he will wear for what is set to be his final appearance for the national team.

The 39-year-old shared the shirt on social media ahead of Argentina’s farewell friendly against Benin at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires on October 6. FIFA has confirmed that the match will mark Messi’s final appearance for Argentina following his decision to retire from international football.

The special jersey retains Argentina’s iconic sky-blue and white colours but comes with distinctive details designed for Messi’s farewell. His name, MESSI, and the legendary No. 10 appear in gold on the back, while the Sun of May is also featured.

Messi accompanied the reveal with a short but emotional message:

“Último partido… Una camiseta para toda la vida.”
“One last match… A jersey for a lifetime.”

Messi’s final Argentina appearance will bring the curtain down on an international career that began with his senior debut in 2005. He has won the 2021 Copa América, 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2024 Copa América with Argentina with 207 caps and 125 international goals.

Argentina are scheduled to face Bolivia on September 30 and Burkina Faso on October 3, but Messi is not expected to feature in either match. His final outing will come against Benin on October 6 at the Monumental.

After more than two decades wearing the famous blue and white, Messi will have one final opportunity to wear the Argentina No. 10 in front of his home supporters.
