‘Committed’: First Look At Dustin Milligan & Diona Doherty As Transatlantic Lovers In CBC & BBC Sitcom

EXCLUSIVE: CBC and BBC Northern Ireland are certainly Committed now.

The broadcasters have released first-look images of their comedy series starring Dustin Milligan (Schitt’s Creek) and Diona Doherty (Derry Girls). You can see them below and above, and we certainly get the sense of Milligan’s Canadian character Peter Hooley falling head-over-heels in love with Doherty’s recently-divorced Northern Irish accountant Julie Doherty.

The series follows Peter as he crosses the Atlantic to declare his love for Julie after they spend a whirlwind weekend together in Toronto, only to find himself in an old-fashioned and eccentric Northern Ireland.

The newly released images also feature Ian McElhinney as William John, Julie’s gruff father; Seamus O’Hara as Julie’s daft brother, John William; Patrick Buchanan as Rev. Campbell Smiley, the dashing figure in his ministerial collar and cycling shorts who sees himself as the guardian and soul of the village; Dan Gordon as Ivan Johnston, the black sheep of the Johnston clan and William John’s brother; Muki Zubis as Julie’s best friend, Chimamanda; and Chris McCurry as Mervyn, Chimamanda’s charismatic and lovable husband. The cast also includes Athena Karkanis and Georgie Murphy.

Cameron Pictures and Fabel Productions are co-producing the series under the UK-Canada Co-Production Treaty. It is currently shooting in County Down, Northern Ireland, with additional scenes being shot in Hamilton, Ontario in Canada. The show is slated to launch on CBC and streamer CBC Gem in winter 2027, with BBC Northern Ireland airing it around the same point.

Series was co-created by Keith Martin, Gerry Dee and Tim Loane, who is showrunner, and developed under the Northern Ireland Screen/Canada Media Fund Co-Development Initiative for Audiovisual Projects. Additional financing for production was provided by the Canada Media Fund and Northern Ireland Screen.

Amy Cameron, Tassie Cameron and Alex Patrick are the exec producers for Cameron Pictures, alongside Fabel’s Martin; Loane and Deel Jessie Gabe; and Molly McGlynn, who also directs the pilot and four episodes. Peter Huang directs five episodes. Co-executive producers are Milligan, Karen Tsang, Caledonia Brown and Shebli Zarghami. Chris Martin is producer. Writers include Loane, Gabe and Zarghami, with supervising producer being Kurt Smeaton and consulting producer Linsey Stewart.
