Ruben Amorim has become only the third coach in Milan’s history to go unbeaten in his first seven Serie A matches in charge.

According to Opta, via MilanNews, the Portuguese has four wins and three draws so far, matching Luis Carniglia’s record from 1963. The only other Milan coach to do it was Hector Puricelli in 1955, who won three and drew four of his first seven league games.

Amorim’s run continued with Sunday’s 3-2 win over Atalanta at San Siro. Gonçalo Ramos, Adrien Rabiot and Mario Gila scored as Milan held off a late fightback from Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Amorim’s Milan move up to fourth

The victory lifted the Rossoneri to fourth on 15 points, four behind joint leaders Inter and Lazio. Earlier in the season, Milan came from 2-0 down to draw at Lazio.

It is a strong start for a coach who arrived in June to replace Massimiliano Allegri, having left Manchester United in January. His European record is less convincing, with a home defeat to Benfica followed by a 4-0 win in Salzburg.

Milan visit Bournemouth in the Europa League on Thursday and Udinese on Sunday, before the derby with Inter on 31 October.
