Comedian Gianmarco Soresi Sets First Solo Netflix Special ‘God Forbid’

Translate

EXCLUSIVE: Gianmarco Soresi has announced that God Forbid — his second full-length stand-up special and first for Netflix — is set to premiere globally on December 3.

Filmed over a sold-out run at Chicago’s Thalia Hall, the special navigates Soresi’s aspirations and anxieties around marriage and fatherhood, his skepticism about society’s substitutes for religion, and the double-edged sword of taking mental health seriously.

This follows Soresi’s self-released 2025 hour Thief of Joy, which was widely praised as one of the year’s best. The special did powerhouse numbers on YouTube with more than 1 million views in its first week and 6M+ all time. Soresi returns to Netflix after showcasing in their series Verified Stand-Up.

God Forbid is written and performed by Soresi, directed by Eric Abrams, and executive produced by Soresi, Tovah Silbermann and Matthew Vaughan for Rotten Science.

Soresi told us, “After over a decade of doing stand-up comedy, I’m thrilled to finally release a comedy special that I didn’t have to upload myself.”

Named one of Deadline’s Comedians Ready to Break Out In 2025 — and subsequently, one of our Comics Who Won 2025 — Soresi is a rising star comic based in New York City who’s known for his astute societal observation and spry, energetic stage presence. A performer with roots in musical theater, he pursued acting first before finding his footing as a stand-up, capturing millions of followers across platforms and building a major touring business within a decade.

Soresi has been seen performing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Comedy Central, Don’t Tell, and was selected as a JFL New Face in 2022. He hosts the popular podcast The Downside with Gianmarco Soresi, as well as the recurring NYC show Theater Adult, and this August, released the new crowd work hour, He Don’t Miss!.

Currently on his global The Misery Loves Tour, spanning 30 cities across eight countries with a majority of sold-out shows, Soresi is repped by by WME, Mosaic and Cohen Gardner.
