The Indian men’s cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir said that it was “an absolute honour” to work with the outgoing BCCI chief selector, Ajit Agarkar.
Agarkar, a former India pacer, was appointed as the Indian team’s chief selector back in 2023. His contract, which ran out this September, wasn’t renewed.
On Tuesday, the BCCI formally began the process of replacing Agarkar, inviting applications for one vacancy just two days after the 48-year-old’s stint ended.
Dear Ajit Bhai, an absolute honour to work with you. Those 3 ICC trophies are testimony of your conviction: Team first & Team ahead, always.. I must say, History will be kinder to you. Thank you for everything. My heartfelt wishes for your future endeavours !! https://t.co/gYQN0fea8X

“Dear Ajit Bhai, an absolute honour to work with you. Those 3 ICC trophies are testimony of your conviction: Team first & Team ahead, always,” Gambhir wrote on a post on X.
“I must say, History will be kinder to you. Thank you for everything. My heartfelt wishes for your future endeavours!!” the former India opener concluded.
Agarkar was the chief selector for the Indian teams which won the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups, and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Moreover, he was also central to decisions like Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav being removed as the ODI and T20I captains respectively.
