Marcos orders nationwide program to help parents vs online threats to kids

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the government to launch a nationwide communications program to help parents address online threats involving children, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Monday.

“May order rin si Presidente na nationwide may communications program kami para sa mga magulang para kausapin sila, para bigyan namin ng direksyon kung anong nangyayari. Everybody's at a loss na nangyayari dyan,” he said in an ambush interview.

“And the President has directed us to communicate of what needs to be done, kung paano dapat kausapin ‘yung mga bata, kung anong approach na dapat sa mga bata. And you'll get these materials very soon,” he added.

Remulla said the program would provide parents with guidance on how to communicate with their children and respond to dangers they may encounter online.

He said Marcos’ directive came amid concerns over online grooming and other activities that could expose minors to harmful influences following a series of fatal shootings in schools.

The most recent incident was reported on September 18 in Banga, South Cotabato where at least three students were killed and eight others were wounded. —RF, GMA News
